29 March, 2020, Kathmandu: All Nepal Federation of Trade Unions (ANTUF) seeks attention of Nepal Govt. to immediately provide relief package to the daily wage workers and their families for their day to day survival. Talking to an online media, Hakkahakki, the Provincial Assembly Member as well as ANTUF President, Cde. Jagat Simkhada urged Nepal Govt. to take necessary action to provide relief package to the daily wage workers who are exposed to multi-faceted vulnerabilities amid the nation-wide lockdown announced by Govt. in the pretext of widespread Covid 19 pandemic across the globe.
President Simkhada further added that Govt. as the responsible entity needs to be more sensitive towards the day to day problems facing the workers and poor people across the nation; and make necessary arrangements for immediate relief package to address their survival situation at least for now.
Mr. Simkhada further adds, the delay in delivering the immediate relief package for the daily wage workers and poverty stricken people might create nation-wide poverty and other humanitarian crisis across the nation thereby bringing thousands of people into unimaginable problems and complexities. The Govt. should not let its people die of hunger; therefore, it needs to take needful measures to address the growing need of grass root people across the nation. Mr. Simkhada reiterated that Govt. also needs to take stock of the vulnerable workers and people severely affected by lockdown and provide them essential food and materials in coordination with trade unions and local authority.
Mr. Simkhada also draws attention of the government to take needful action and initiation to rescue its citizens affected by Corona pandemic within nation and from abroad. He also urged Nepal Govt. to ensure health and safety issue of all the health staffs, technicians, and workers involved in treatment of the corona victims across the nation.
