PRESS RELEASE
Our glorious organization, All Nepal Federation of Trade Union (ANTUF) expresses deep sorrow and sadness on the unprecedented loss of life and property in massive flood and landslide caused by the incessant rain occurring in past few days in different parts of the nation.
At the backdrop of nation-wide havoc caused by the wide spread corona pandemic (Covid-19), the devastating natural disaster i.e. flood and landslides have further aggravated entire socio-economic situation across the country where thousands of people are exposed to severe vulnerabilities. In this situation, our organization strongly urges government at federal, province and local level to take immediate measures for the rescue and rehabilitation of the flood victims and those affected by landslides. We also appeal all the leaders and members of the affiliated unions to use available resource to maximum extent and involve in rescue efforts of the victims of natural disaster across the nation.
As Nepal Government has taken decision to loosen nationwide lockdown allowing operation of industries, factories and public transportation, we urge all the workers to follow the health related precautionary measures defined by World Health Organization (WHO) while travelling for work as well as in all work places to be safe from Covid-19.
Our organization strongly detests the recent heinous act taken by Nepal Government to burn the houses and evacuate poor labour settlements in Chitwan and in other parts of country in the name of conservation of the nature while they are desperately struggling to survive amidst the devastating natural disaster. We ask Nepal Government to stop such inhuman act and protect the life and assets of the people in this crucial situation. We also urge government to take needful action and initiation for the rescue of the travellers stuck on the road due to flood and landslides caused the nation.
